European Parliament building in Brussels

OMADA won the FL/TERMINOLOGY16 call for tenders and signed a contract with the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union (CdT) ↗ for terminology-related language services from English into Greek. Announced on 27 February 2017, the four-year agreement extended OMADA’s cooperation with EU institutions into a dedicated terminology assignment.

English-to-Greek terminology across EU fields

The work covered the subject areas of the bodies and institutions served by the CdT. They included education, employment, culture, transport, networks and joint undertakings, research and innovation, social affairs, the environment and energy.

The original announcement also named chemicals, intellectual property, general and budgetary matters, finance, foreign and security policy, police and judicial cooperation, public health, law, medicine and consumer protection. Across such different fields, a term has to be understood in context before an appropriate Greek equivalent is selected.

People and technology working together

OMADA planned to deliver the services with Greek translators and terminology specialists. The original announcement also described the use of SDL translation-management software and terminology quality tools. Such resources support structured research, consistent records and quality checks, while experts remain responsible for the linguistic decisions.

A four-year step in a longer relationship

The contract was set to run for 48 months. It built on OMADA’s longstanding translation work for the European Union and added a focused terminology project to that experience. The award is a milestone in the company’s continuing work with complex, multilingual institutional content.

Our current approach is described on the terminology management page.
