OMADA is joining the Translating Europe Forum 2022 ↗ (#2022TEF). Our Managing Director, Dimitris Moutafis, will represent the company at the event in Brussels and online from 9 to 11 November.

The hybrid format brings language professionals, institutions and technology specialists into the same conversation, with approximately 400 participants expected in Brussels and 2,000 online, according to the event announcement.

Translation at a moment of change

Language technology makes information easier to reach across borders. Machine translation can handle an unprecedented volume of text, but volume alone does not establish that a message is accurate, clear or appropriate for its readers. The forum offers a place to examine how specialist knowledge and technology work together.

Making content more accessible

The 2022 discussions also look beyond written documents. Audiovisual translation helps people encounter films and other media in their own language.

Speech-to-text and automated speech recognition can support access to information, including when communication matters urgently. These tools create possibilities, while linguists remain essential for interpreting context and checking results.

Human expertise at the centre

A useful multilingual workflow brings together the speed of technology and the judgment of translation professionals. Terminology, cultural nuance, intended use and the consequences of an error all need human attention. OMADA looks forward to exchanging ideas on these questions with colleagues at #2022TEF.

Our approach to professional review of machine output is described on the MTPE & AI-output review page.

Meeting the community

The forum is an opportunity to reconnect with partners and meet new collaborators working on translation, accessibility and language technology. We look forward to the conversations in Brussels and online.

This is an expanded version of OMADA’s announcement published on 8 November 2022. Attendance figures were expectations stated before the event.
