On January 19th, 2023, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in partnership with the Panhellenic Association of Translators, hosted a guest lecture from Omada’s Managing Director, Dimitris Moutafis. The event was focused on translators’ CV creation and careers, and also included a lecture on the importance of translators’ digital presence from a member of the Panhellenic Association of Translators.

Lectures from translation business professionals to university students are incredibly important for several reasons:

Firstly, they provide students with real-world insights into the translation industry. While university courses and textbooks can provide a theoretical understanding of the industry, hearing from professionals who work in the field can help students gain a deeper understanding of how the industry operates in practice. They can also learn about the latest trends, technologies, and best practices that they may not learn in a classroom setting.

Secondly, guest lectures provide students with opportunities to network with professionals in the field. Meeting and engaging with industry experts can help students gain valuable contacts and insights into potential career paths. This can lead to internships, job opportunities, and mentorship relationships that can be incredibly beneficial for their future careers.

Thirdly, guest lectures can inspire and motivate students. Hearing from successful professionals who have achieved success in the translation industry can be incredibly inspiring for students who are still figuring out their career paths. The lecture can show students the potential opportunities and success they can achieve in the industry if they work hard and develop the right skills.

Dimitris Moutafis is an industry expert with years of experience in the translation industry, making him a valuable speaker for the event. During his lecture, Dimitris shared his insights on how to create a successful translation CV that stands out to employers. He also discussed the current state of the industry and the skills that are in high demand for translators.

The second lecture, delivered by from Anastasia Giagkopoulou, Secretary General of the Panhellenic Association of Translators, focused on the importance of translators’ digital presence. With more companies conducting business online, it’s essential for translators to have a strong online presence. The lecture covered topics such as creating a website, social media marketing, and online networking.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for students who are looking to pursue a career in the translation industry to learn from experts in the field. The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Panhellenic Association of Translators should be commended for organizing such a valuable event.

Guest lectures from translation business professionals are incredibly important for university students, as they can provide students with valuable insights into the industry, opportunities to network, and inspiration for their future careers. Universities and translation organizations should continue to organize such events to help bridge the gap between the classroom and the real-world translation industry.

Our Managing Director’s guest lecture, along with the lecture on the importance of translators’ digital presence from Anastasia Giagkopoulou, member of the Panhellenic Association of Translators, was a significant event for anyone interested in the translation industry. We hope that similar events will be organized in the future.
