A Meet & Greet session tomorrow’s language industry professionals

Our company’s Managing Director Dimitris Moutafis delivered on Friday June 10 a guest lecture on translation careers to students at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Department of English Language and Literature.

A translation and business studies graduate himself, Dimitris was invited to speak as part of the curriculum for a course entitled “Specialized Translation & Terminology”, taught by Associate Lecturer Effrossyni (Effie) Fragkou.

The presentation included a brief history of the foundation and evolution of Omada from a start-up in a bachelor’s flat 31 years ago to an esteemed language services company in 2022, as well as how the company recruits and works with freelancers, lessons from Dimitris’s 15+ year career in business and his experience as the company’s Managing Director, along with useful career tips about the profession for anyone interested to join the language industry as a freelance translator.

This visit was scheduled with the aim to connect students with professional experiences and help them build career skills. The lectures and guest speakers—including Dimitris—compose an experiential program that is designed to better prepare students for the challenges and opportunities they will face when they graduate and enter the market.

Dimitris stated, “It’s an honour to speak with these students about the potential of a career in translation and the language industry as a whole. The expertise and professionalism of our freelance linguists plays a crucial role in Omada’s success. I am grateful to have the opportunity to share my experiences today with tomorrow’s language industry professionals.”
